Competition Information

Accepted Entries and Heat Sheets

Heat sheets will be posted HERE and sent out to all participants via athletic.net on Tuesday, June 17th.

Athlete Check-In/Clerking

  • Event Order: Girls will compete first, followed by boys. Heat assignments are based on performance lists, with the "fastest" heat running last. In trials, heats will be randomized according to USATF rules.

  • Check-In Time: All athletes must report to the clerking area at least 30 minutes before the event start time. The clerking area is located at the call room. Please see facility map.

  • Event Schedule: No public announcements or event calls will be made. Athletes and coaches are responsible for knowing the event schedule.

  • Personal Items: For safety and security, do not leave personal items unattended in the clerking or warm-up areas.

  • Footwear: Only athletic shoes approved by USATF/World Athletics will be allowed in competition.

Spike Policy

All athletes must use only pyramid spikes that are no longer than 1/4-inch (7mm) in length, except for high jump and javelin where 3/8-inch (9mm) or lesser spike may be used. 

Lane Assignments & Preferences

  • 100m, 110m/110m Hurdles: Lane assignment is 6-7-5-8-4-9-3-2-1.

  • 200m, 400m, 4x200m, 4x400m, Sprint Medley: Lane assignment is 8-7-9-5-6-4-3-2-1.

  • 800m, Mile, 3,000, 5,000, 4x800, 4xMile, DMR: Lane assignments are random.

Starting Blocks

  • Usage: Starting blocks must be used in events of 400 meters or less. Athletes must start in a “down” position.

  • Starting blocks will be provided on site at Hayward Field.

False Start

  • Rule: One false start results in disqualification of the offending athlete, as per USATF rules.

Hurdles

  • Height: Boys' hurdles will be set at 39 inches, while girls' hurdles will be set at 33 inches.

Relays

  • Stagger:

    • 4x200 and Sprint Medley: Three-turn stagger.

    • 4x400: Uses three-turn stagger.

    • 4x800 and DMR: Uses one-turn stagger.

  • Exchange Zone: There than the 4 x 100 meter relay which will use the 30 meter exchange zone, a 20 meter exchange zone will be used for all other relays..

  • Mixed 4x400 Relay: The order will be boy, girl, boy, girl.

Relay Batons

  • Provision: Meet management will not provide batons at the start. Please bring your own baton to the starting line.

Relay Cards

  • Submission: Coaches must fill out relay cards and submit them to the clerk at least 60 minutes before the scheduled start of each relay. Relay cards are available at the packet pick up area.

Field Events Policies and Procedures

Check-In/Clerking

  • Field event athletes must check in at the event site at least 30 minutes prior to the event.

  • Flight Assignment: Based on the performance list; the best flight goes last. Random assignments within the flight per USATF rules.

  • Attempt Time: There is a 60-second limit per attempt for all field events per USATF rules.

Throwing Implements

  • Inspection: Conducted in the garage according the the schedule below:

    Wednesday, June 18: 3:00pm-7:00pm
    Thursday-Sunday: Beginning 2 hours before the start of the first throw event and be open until the last throw event finishes.

  • Weights:

    • Men's shot put: 12 lb

    • Women's shot put: 4 kg; Weight throw: 20 lb

    • Boys (middle school) shot put: 4kg

    • Girls(middle school) shot put: 4kg

    • Men's hammer: 12lb

    • Women's hammer: 4kg

    • Men's javelin: 800g

    • Women's javelin: 600g

  • Sector: The throwing sector is 34.92 degrees.

  • Implementation Use: All throwing implements are available for use by any athlete in the competition.

Competition

  • There is no on-field coaches' box for any field

  • Prior to the warm-up period, athletes may be assisted in carrying poles onto the field of play.

  • Pole vault coaches will be cleared from the infield prior to the start of the competition per officials' direction.

Awards

  • Medals: Awarded to the top eight places in the championship division. Top six in all other divisions.

  • Championship Necklaces: Awarded to each winner in the Championship division, including relay teams.

  • All-American Recognition: The top eight in the Championship division will be named NSAF All-American and receive All-American tees and certificates.

  • Other Awards: Emerging Elite, Freshman, Middle School, and Club division awards will be distributed at the awards table. No awards ceremony.
